Word of Advice #4

(Versión en español)
(Deutsche Version)

I had to consult something at the university regarding an internship and I dared to ask Dr. Claudia Görg, Academic Consultant of English at JGU Mainz, for her advice:

She kindly answered:

  1. The best advice I've been given: do a semester abroad, especially if you are studying languages. So you can see the other perspective and you can deepen your vision much more.

  1. My best advice: Never try to fulfill everyone's expectations. No matter what you do, there's always going to be someone who doesn't like what you do or who doesn't agree with you. Love yourself and know your worth.

She also told me that it is difficult for an adult to answer those questions and that it may be easier for children to answer them, given that they always receive advice. Adults, on the other hand, normally hardly receive any advice.

And I ask myself why. Why is it so hard for an adult to receive advice? Why don't we dare to ask for it? Are we afraid or are we too proud? Or it simply doesn't look good that sometimes an adult needs guidance?
